Frequently Asked Questions

How does consignment for imported cars work through Apany?

Our platform connects you with a hand-picked network of specialist dealers who are experts in selling imported cars. The process is simple: you provide us with your car's details, and we match you with the best dealer for your specific vehicle.

The dealer then acts as your agent, handling the entire sale on consignment—from marketing to negotiation—while you retain ownership. This model gives you access to professional sales services, which you can explore on our main Sell my car page.

What documents will the dealer need to sell my imported car?

Having the correct paperwork is essential for the dealer to secure a quick and high-value sale. You will need to provide them with:

  • -The UK V5C Logbook: Showing you as the registered keeper.
  • -Importation Documents: Such as the C&E 386 or NOVA (Notification of Vehicle Arrivals) confirmation.
  • -Proof of UK Compliance: An MOT certificate and, if applicable, evidence of an IVA (Individual Vehicle Approval) test.
  • -Service History: All records from its country of origin and any work done in the UK are highly valuable.

We can provide initial guidance, and the dealer will help you organise the paperwork for the sale.

How do your dealers handle ULEZ/CAZ compliance for my import?

Compliance is a critical selling point. Our platform provides tools to help you check the status of your vehicle for key zones like the London ULEZ, the Birmingham CAZ, and the Bristol CAZ.

The dealer will then use this information as a powerful marketing tool. A compliant car will be promoted to city-based buyers, while a non-compliant car will be targeted towards enthusiasts in areas where the zones are not a factor.

How do your dealers find buyers for my imported car?

Our dealers use a highly targeted, dual-pronged strategy depending on the type of import, ensuring your car is marketed to the most relevant and serious audience.

For Parallel Imports (e.g., a Japanese-spec Audi Q3 or BMW 3 Series): The goal here is to attract premium used car buyers who may not have considered an import. The dealer will market the car on major platforms like AutoTrader and PistonHeads, but the advertising will specifically highlight the key advantages over a UK equivalent: a rust-free chassis, higher factory specification, and excellent condition. To remove any barriers for these buyers, some dealers in our network can also arrange for professional retrofitting of UK infotainment, navigation, and radio frequencies.

For JDM-only Models (e.g., a Toyota Century, Nissan Silvia): This is a completely different approach. The strategy focuses on reaching a niche community of enthusiasts and collectors. The dealer leverages their deep connections by marketing the vehicle through specialist forums, dedicated social media groups, car clubs, and by directly contacting known collectors who are actively seeking such rare models. This ensures your car is seen by passionate buyers who understand its true value and heritage, not time-wasting individuals.

Why use a consignment platform instead of going to a dealer directly?

Our platform provides two key advantages: access and assurance.

Access: We have vetted a wide network of dealers, so we can match your specific car—whether it's a common parallel import or an ultra-rare JDM classic to the dealer with the most relevant experience and buyer contacts.

Assurance: We ensure every dealer in our network adheres to high standards of transparency and service. You avoid the guesswork and risk of approaching an unknown dealer directly.

We make the process of finding a trustworthy, expert consignor simple and effective. For more details, you can always contact us.
